D/Gauge announces the successful completion of a planned leadership transition, marking a significant milestone in the company’s continued growth and long‑term strategic development. After more than 14 years with the organisation, Colin Johnson has now left the business, concluding a structured six‑month handover period during which he supported Tom Coughlin in assuming the role of Managing Director.

Tom Coughlin has formally become the Managing Director of D/Gauge. Tom has stepped into the position in January, bringing deep operational, commercial and client experience from within D/Gauge. As former Head of Operations and Finance, Tom has led operational delivery financial governance, software customer sales and onboarding, and the successful integration of D/Gauge into TÜV Rheinland. His leadership has ensured the company continues to operate efficiently while maintaining the high technical and service standards relied upon by clients across the international rail sector. Tom’s appointment underscores D/Gauge’s commitment to continuity, stability and sustainable growth. With a strong understanding of the company’s technical foundations and customer needs, he is well positioned to guide D/Gauge through its next phase as the rail industry continues to evolve.
Reflecting on his departure, Colin Johnson said: “After 14 plus years, it is time to officially wrap up my time with D/Gauge. I'm proud and humbled by what we have achieved in that time. I have had the immense pleasure of working with some of the most experienced colleagues and fantastic clients. Thank you for the challenge and the trust to deliver. The journey from startup, through scaling up, through exit and ultimately transitioning into TÜV Rheinland Group has been awesome. A special shout out has to go to my Dad, Dr David Johnson—who has provided unwavering support, mentorship, horsepower and downright graft. Thank you. I'm leaving in the capable hands of Tom Coughlin. I hand over the keys with immense pride, and I know the team will continue to thrive.”
This leadership transition reinforces D/Gauge’s future‑focused approach and ensures customers can continue to expect the same high level of technical excellence, service quality and industry leadership as the company enters its next chapter. We wish Colin all the best in his new endeavors and Tom Coughlin luck in his new role.
